Spellex Write-Assist Terms of Use

Effective date: 30 August 2026

These terms apply when you use:

together called "Spellex Write-Assist", or "Spellex" for short. Spellex Write-Assist is made by Spellex Technologies, LLC ("Spellex", "we", "us"). By installing or using Spellex, you agree to these terms. If you use Spellex for a school or company, you agree to them for that organization too, and you confirm you may do so.

1. Your license to use Spellex

We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use Spellex in Google Docs and in Word, for your own writing and reading, under these terms.

2. What you may not do

You may not:

3. Your documents

Your documents stay yours. Spellex reads and changes them only to provide the tools you use, as described in the Spellex Write-Assist Privacy Policy. You are responsible for your documents and for checking the changes you make with Spellex.

4. Check the results

Spellex helps with spelling, word choice and reading. It does not replace your own judgment.

5. Other companies' services

Spellex works inside Google Docs and Microsoft Word, and uses other services: the Free Dictionary API (freedictionaryapi.com) for definitions, your browser's voices for Read Aloud, and Cloudflare to deliver Spellex's files. Your use of Google and Microsoft products is covered by their own terms. We are not responsible for other companies' services, and Spellex tools that rely on them may stop working if those services change or are unavailable.

6. Credits

Spellex's English word lists are based on the English Speller Database (SCOWL) by Kevin Atkinson. Definitions are from Wiktionary, available under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 license (CC BY-SA 4.0). These parts remain under their own licenses.

7. Ownership

Spellex, its word lists, the MedXpand list, the DysLex font, its look and its names and logos belong to Spellex or its licensors and are protected by copyright and trademark law. These terms give you no rights in them except the license in section 1.

8. Updates and availability

We may update Spellex to fix problems, add tools or change how it works; updates may install automatically. We try to keep Spellex available, but it may sometimes be unavailable, for example during maintenance or when an internet connection, Google or Microsoft is down.

9. No warranty

Spellex is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, Spellex gives no warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. We do not promise that Spellex will be free of errors or will find every mistake.

10. Limit of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Spellex is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost data, documents, profits or business, arising from your use of Spellex, even if we were told they might happen. Spellex's total liability for any claim about Spellex is limited to the amount you paid for Spellex in the 12 months before the claim. Some places do not allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you.

11. Ending these terms

You may stop using Spellex at any time by uninstalling it. We may suspend or end your license if you break these terms. Sections 2 to 7 and 9 to 12 continue to apply after the license ends.

12. Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, USA, without regard to its rules on conflicts of law. Any dispute about these terms or Spellex is to be decided by the state and federal courts in Hillsborough County, Florida, and you and Spellex agree to their jurisdiction.

13. Changes to these terms

We may change these terms. We will post the new version on this page with a new effective date. If you keep using Spellex after a change, you accept the new terms.
